Lymphatic Therapy
Please check out our informative video about lymphatic therapy and manual lymphatic drainage (MLD). Dr. Erin Murphy attended the Dr. Vodder School in 2004 and worked in Lymphatic’s Plus, Lymphatix’s, and Healing Hands of Lymphatic’s before opening her own establishment.
Pre/Post Surgical MLD
There have been international research projects that have proven lymphatic treatment both before and after a surgery can help reduce pain, swelling, and the risk of infection. By performing manual lymphatic therapy treatments (usually 3 sessions) before a surgery the lymphatic system is flushed and less swelling is noted after surgery.
The best time to start MLD is after surgery or when an injury has occurred. Personally, I have started post plastic lymphatic while the patient was still in the recovery room.
When the body is injured, the local lymphatic vessels will contract as part of a safety mechanism to reduce the spread of infection. In addition, the cells create more biological waist with increased metabolism. Finally, the third component is the immune system stimulate the cells to secrete cytotoxins and recruit more T-cells and B-cells. All three of these component lead to an increase in swelling and pain.
When a therapist performs MLD, they open the pathways and allow the fluid to be moved out of the area. By preventing the swelling or by minimizing the edema, there is less pain. Post treatments very based on the persons lymphatic system, the type of surgery, the pain medications, and the quickness of receiving MLD. It is suggested that a person has at least four post treatments within 2 weeks of the surgery.
Lymphedema Management
Many people have insurance benefits that will cover the cost of lymphedema treatments. However, some insurance companies have limited treatments or they have denied the patient the right to be treated. If you have access to using insurance, please contact me and I can provide you with suggestions on which clinic to visit.
However, if you would like to pay out of pocket for treatments, I can provide full services: lymphedema Massage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Compression Bandaging
Kinesio Tapping
Patient Education
Sport Injury
If there is swelling the a limb, the head, brain, or trunk, I can address the issue. Most people do not realize that by removing swelling then the pain will reduce and the patient can recover quicker. The treatment consist of MLD (soft tissue massage) and kinesio tapping. The therapist may also suggest a bandaging system.

Prices will be determined during the evaluation to determine if the patient will benefit from treatment. The price of the evaluation is $120 and must be conducted in the office. If you would like to have the evaluation at a different location such as the house then the evaluation will be $200
Research Notes: Current research and older scientific methods have suggested that increased pressure in the lymphatic nodes and vessels can lead to and inflation in the joints. Both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis can be reduced by stimulating the lymphatic system.
