Low Back Pain is recognized by many different government agencies as a primary use for acupuncture. Medicare does cover acupuncture treatments for low back pain. However, medicare does not allow acupuncturist to bill for services. This will change in the near future – within 5 years. Treatment Plans:
A typical treatment consisted of several different styles of acupuncture and limited massage. Since Dr. Murphy is a licensed massage therapist along with being a clinical acupuncturist, she can provide both services. Acupuncture has different types/styles of therapy. Local acupuncture is the use of needles directly around an injury site. As an example, for stroke victims, we use acupuncture at the location of the injury on the scalp. Other treatments may include cupping, massage therapy, CBD with pine and arnica may also be used. Treatment plans are determined during the evaluation phase.
Neuropathy
There is no cure for neuropathy and there are plenty of snake oil salesmen trying to panhandle a cure. Dr. Murphy has very strong feelings about how patients are treated. There is only science and no psychic assumptions when treating different cases.
Neuropathy is an important diagnosis that Dr. Murphy is addressing. There are limited therapies that people can access. At The Local Healing House, we use a special electric devise that helps to stimulate the nervous system. We have several successful cases of people that came in with walking difficulties due to neuropathy that lefts walking much better with less pain.
Is this a once-and-done treatment? probably not. There is not enough time to suggest when a client should return to therapy for their neuropathy. This is a newer, undiscovered treatment that is a side effect of a medical devise. The intention for this devise was not to address neuropathy.
How did Dr. Murphy discover this connect? Out of pure desperation. Dr. Murphy was struggling to find success with a Neuropathy case when she grabbed a devise.
